01History and origin of Serengeti

Karen Sausman developed this domestic breed in California from Bengals and Oriental Shorthairs. TICA describes it as a preliminary new breed eligible for exhibition, not a championship breed. Unlike the Savannah, it has no serval ancestry.

02Serengeti appearance and coat

Look for long legs and neck, very large upright ears and solid spots rather than two-tone rosettes. Appearance alone cannot establish pedigree.

03Serengeti temperament and interaction

TICA describes an active, sociable cat that may enjoy climbing and conversation. Temperament varies with the individual and environment.

04Grooming and everyday care

Provide secure climbing spaces, scratching posts and daily play. Brush regularly and monitor skin, teeth and weight. Discuss individual health and diet with a veterinarian.

Serengeti · Common questions before choosing a cat

Does the Serengeti have serval ancestry?

No. TICA identifies Bengal and Oriental Shorthair foundations, without serval ancestry.

Does it have TICA championship status?

The TICA introduction checked here describes preliminary new-breed exhibition. A breed profile does not itself establish championship status; consult current registry rules.

Do solid spots prove a cat is a Serengeti?

No. Other domestic cats also have spots. Reliable ancestry records are needed; this illustration is only a visual example.
